About Us
Purpose and Vision
Rangers Basketball Club is designed to increase the capacity and quality of basketball throughout Southeastern Alberta. We plan to do this by offering services to coaches, athletes, administrators and officials. We will meet the needs of all facets of the game; from introductory programs to elite level preparation and competition. We will do this through a variety of programs driven by the needs of the basketball community.
This will include:
- MY Basketball- an introductory basketball program for Grades 3-6.
- Pre-season Prep Camps - We offer these co-ed camps in junior high "A" and "B" Formats as well as a senior high session. They are designed to get returning athletes prepared for the upcoming school season.
- Medicine Hat Community Basketball Association - One practice/week with one game a week will help develop skills and confidence with the game of basketball. We are currently looking for coaches/minor officials to help with this program. This co-educational program is for athletes born in 1998, 1999 and 2000. Please contact us at rbchoops@telus.net if you are interested in helping with this program.
- Rangers Basketball Club Teams - Spring/Summer elite travelling squads; we offered girls and boys teams at U13, U15 and U17 for the Spring/Summer 2010 season.
- Rangers After School Programs - We are working with local schools and school boards to offer an After School care alternative. This will be a 6 week program offering two 1 hour sessions/week teaching children fun and fitness through basketball. This program is designed to give children in Grades 1-3 a fun positive sporting experience that will enhance their innate athletic abilities as well as promote a healthy active lifestyle. If you would like Rangers After School programs to be a part of your child's after school programming, please email us at rbchoops@telus.net.
Inspiration
We were inspired to develop Rangers Basketball Club after playing from community leagues through university and on over to Europe. During and after our playing careers we wanted to give back to a sport that had given us so much. Having coached and been apart of a wide variety of experiences, we decided to form Rangers like a European sport club.
Many schools in Europe do NOT offer sport. As such, many people participate in sporting activities in local clubs tied to the community. Europeans are often sports club members aged 8-80 and that is our goal here at Rangers. As we grow and develop with the community we look forward to having programs, leagues and involvement for everyone from 8-80 years of age.
Our youth curriculum is in line with the Canadian Long Term Athlete Development model which is designed to promote sport for life as well as help develop podium level athletes. One of the Club's strengths is the design of a comprehensive curriculum for athlete development as they progress from MY Basketball initiates to elite Spring/Summer Team Performers and beyond.
